Energy-efficient Healthcare

McGraw-Hill Construction’s sustainable design-focused magazine, GreenSource, covered an example of CBB’s expertise in energy-efficient lighting design for today’s healthcare facilities (January 2010 issue). The Memorial Sloan-Kettering Mortimer B. Zuckerman Research Center, designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, employs lighting methodologies that meet the most current sustainability goals. Almost all building occupants have access to natural illumination most of the day. CBB instituted a specialized daylight-harvesting control system which has vastly improved the building’s overall energy-efficiency, helping the Center to achieve a 20 percent—and potentially higher—reduction in energy use compared to similar code-compliant buildings.
