DUKE UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL CANCER CENTER – QUIET ROOM

Durham, NC

The Duke Cancer Center Quiet Room is a restorative space, an oasis within the inherently stressful environment of the hospital. The flexible lighting creates an immersive environment, which comforts and rejuvenates.

The room’s focal point is a cast-glass sculpture, which is animated by carefully programmed LEDs within it, creating the illusion of moving water. Different visitors have different needs, ranging from introspection to complete distraction, and the gently shifting colors and lights constantly transform the space, allowing visitors to experience it in myriad ways.
