This 56-floor office tower in Midtown Manhattan – the first skyscraper to achieve LEED Platinum certification – is acclaimed as one of the world’s most sustainable and eco-friendly buildings. Expert lighting design was critical to achieving the energy-efficient illumination of a glass tower and its 300-foot high, color-changing spire, which together reach a total height of 1,200 feet.

Strips of cool white LEDs create a ladder of light along the chamfered corner of the building, while special consideration to the illumination of the glass curtain wall in front of the mechanical spaces makes the entire building glow evenly. The main lobby design uses glass, daylight and natural materials to connect the site’s indoor and outdoor environments, within a lighting power density 30% below that which the relevant code allows.
