THE BROOKLYN HISTORICAL SOCIETY – OTHMER LIBRARY

Brooklyn, NY

This 1878-81 historic site, formerly known as the Long Island Historical Society Building, was designed by architect George B. Post, in a free adaptation of the Queen Anne style incorporating Italian Renaissance details.

Ironically, the society has no record of their historical fixtures. CBB’s designers did extensive research which led them to design new fixtures that are true to the style and use of materials within a five year period of the opening of the building. In terms of style, scale, materials, and details, this landmark institutional building contributes to the special architectural and historic character of the Brooklyn Heights Historic District. CBB’s innovative solution created a lighting system that is historically accurate, yet responds to the lighting needs of today.
