HACKLEY SCHOOL CENTER FOR CREATIVE ARTS AND TECHNOLOGY

Tarrytown, NY

The LEED Gold-certified Center for Creative Arts and Technology at the Hackley School serves as a new campus gateway that unites music, theater, visual arts, and computer science under one roof. At the heart of the structure, a dramatic, multi-story lobby provides a connective spine that links these creative disciplines.

By day, the lobby is bathed in natural light that streams through floor-to-ceiling windows and a central skylight. By night, this space transforms into a glowing beacon. Recessed, lensed LED wallwashers illuminate the vertical surfaces on each level, while a pattern of downlights with decorative glass trims adds sparkle to the wood ceiling. A flexible LED, tucked into an architectural cove at the base of the skylight, enhances the form of the curved fascia.

The 550-seat auditorium allows varied configurations for musical performances, theatre, and multi-media collaborations. A flexible, elegant lighting system accentuates a palette of natural materials. Decorative downlights with frosted glass trims establish a visual relationship with the lobby. Recessed wallwashers highlight the side and rear walls and acoustic curtains.

Framing projectors, easily accessed via the catwalk, bring dynamic color to the side balcony fronts, underscoring the auditorium’s role as a vibrant hub for creativity and performance.

CBB’s versatile, youthful, and inspired lighting solution enriches the students’ theatrical experience.
