DARYL ROTH THEATRE FAÇADE RENOVATION

New York, NY

This Off-Broadway theater in Manhattan’s busy Union Square occupies a former bank. Being housed in a NYC landmark building presented two significant lighting challenges. First, how does one transform a staid bank, never intended to be illuminated at night, into a theater that comes alive after dark? Second, how does one light a building whose landmark status severely restricts what can be done?

Our solution was to create a totally new fixture: one with a minimal 2-5/8” profile that can illuminate the 60-foot façades. In addition, the fixture’s optics and mountings are modified for different parts of the façade. With such versatility, this single fixture provides the project’s sole source of illumination.

The precise and elegant lighting animates the building, giving the once invisible theater a jewel-box presence.
