THE BROOKLYN ACADEMY OF MUSIC (BAM) FAÇADE RENOVATION

Brooklyn, NY

The 1908 façade of the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) underwent a major restoration to recreate historic architectural elements in the context of contemporary building design. A central element of this transformation is new lighting, which compliments the renovated building’s façades and entrances and accents a new, undulating glass canopy.

LEDs concealed behind the canopy structure can be programmed to create kaleidoscopic displays of color. Street-level lighting gives the building an enlivened street presence and provides for pedestrian safety. The lighting design celebrates the time-honored fabric of the building, highlights the new canopy’s vitality, and creates a fresh, welcoming public venue.
