CONNECTICUT SCIENCE CENTER

Hartford, CT

Hartford’s LEED Gold certified, 154,000 square foot science museum and educational facility redefines the city’s skyline and has generated a new level of activity in its downtown waterfront district.

A wavy “magic carpet” roof floats above a light-filled, 143-foot-high central atrium and is uplit at night, creating the building’s signature feature. Exhibit galleries, a multi-purpose theater, a café and offices are housed in volumes to either side of the atrium, while a Science Discovery Center is located within the building’s base.

The lighting is a metaphor for the building as a beacon of scientific exploration, graphically illustrating technological advances in service to architecture.
