Monica’s interest in lighting began with a passion for architectural design and the way people experience space. She graduated with Honors from the MFA Lighting Design Program at Parsons The New School for Design in May 2015, and immediately joined the CBBLD team as a designer.
While at Parsons, she was awarded the Dean’s Merit Scholarship and the Golden Portfolio Award. In addition, Monica and her team won First Place in the IES Philadelphia Section’s “Design with Light” Student Competition, with their entry of the Philadelphia Cancer Center project.
Monica graduated with Honors from Francisco Marroquin University in Guatemala City, with a Professional Bachelor of Architecture Degree. Prior to moving to New York City, she worked as an Architect in Guatemala City, focusing primarily on residential developments, corporate buildings, and private homes.
She is drawn to the power of lighting to bring greater impact to architecture, and to alter people’s perception of a space. As an architect and lighting designer she is sensitive to the ways that both design elements can be integrated to create positive user experiences.
Monica enjoys working collaboratively through the design process with different disciplines, approaching each challenge creatively to develop optimal solutions. Her current projects include high-end private residences, commercial towers and academic facilities.
