Clean, Green and Award-winning
CBBLD’s lighting design for the Connecticut Science Center (Hartford, CT) has won two lighting design awards in 2010: a GE Award of Merit and an IES Illumination Award of Merit. The new museum’s lighting is as energy-efficient as it is compelling, helping the project to achieve LEED® Gold certification. The Center’s illuminated “Magic Carpet” ceiling accents the Hartford skyline and marks the building as a beacon of scientific exploration and discovery.
Elegant Lighting for Vegas
Luxury
CBBLD designed the lighting for Vdara, a sophisticated new luxury suite-hotel and spa complex in Las Vegas, part of the widely publicized MGM CityCenter development. The CBBLD team worked with an array of architects and interior designers to develop the lighting for this LEED Gold complex, which includes exterior building lighting and interior lighting for the 1,495-room hotel, public lobbies, conference center, spa/salon/fitness center, pool deck/lounge and Silk Road restaurant, pictured here. The lighting for Silk Road brings to life the rich, colorful interiors designed by Karim Rashid.
Lighting Design for Healthcare’s Best
CBBLD is proud to have been a member of DudaPaine Architects’ team in the design of Duke Integrative Medicine (Durham, NC), a project acclaimed as a paradigm for modern healthcare facility design. This new-age clinic, the winner of a 2009 Architectural Lighting Magazine Commendation, has received yet another award – the American Institute of Architects (AIA) 2010 National Design Award for Health Care. The project is scheduled for exhibition at architectural conventions nation-wide and will be published in numerous industry journals.
Stephen Bernstein Gets Green Light
CBBLD Principal Stephen Bernstein has joined the Technical Advisory Group (TAG) of Green Light New York, Inc., an independent, nonprofit organization whose mission is “to promote high-quality, energy efficient lighting in New York City.” The Group’s first goal is the creation of a center offering a range of training, guidance and support resources to industry students and professionals. Stephen was among a select group of lighting professionals invited to join the TAG, and has attended its first meeting in April.
A New Manhattan Highlight
The Eventi, a CBBLD project nearing completion, enlivens the urban streetscape of the Manhattan city block that it covers. The complex, located near to NYC’s theater district, includes an upscale hotel, apartments and a food court/restaurant. A four-story facade featuring a color-changing light display provides an exciting centerpiece. CBBLD created this vibrant exterior using linear LED fixtures, incorporated into light boxes behind the façade windows. The LEDs are DMX-programmed to produce an engaging array of colors, patterns and effects. View Eventi facade lighting animation.
