Stapleton Library Highlighted in Oculus

The Fall 2014 issue of Oculus (an AIA New York Section publication) features two CBBLD lighting design projects. This issue of the publication, entitled “Culture and the City,” focuses on key civic and cultural projects in New York City.

A Showcase for History and Heritage discusses the Weeksville Heritage Center, a museum and performance venue focused on the successful African American community of Weeksville, established in Brooklyn in the 19th century. Working with Caples Jefferson Architects, CBBLD designed the Center’s theatrical lighting for the many performance events hosted there.

A second article, Branching Out, covers the redesign of New York Public Library’s Stapleton Branch (shown above). CBBLD scope included both the renovation of the landmarked Carnegie Library (1907) – now a Children’s Room – and a new, 7,000 SF addition. CBBLD’s lighting for both the original library and the added, modern structure is a central element in the project’s integration of old and new.  CBBLD collaborated with Andrew Berman Architect on the project.
